Synthesizing Qualitative Literature: From Research to Practice

This webinar was presented on October 28, 2025

Overview

A qualitative meta-synthesis looks across findings from qualitative research literature to answer a synthesis question and construct greater meaning for a topic. This webinar focused on introducing the informal STEM education (ISE) field to qualitative meta-synthesis and its purposes, practicality, and importance. It was presented by the Institute for Meta-Synthesis (IMS) team as part of their Promoting Investigators’ Capacity in STEM Education Literature Synthesis (PICSELS) project (NSF Grant No. 2422287). Attendees learned about the similarities and differences among meta-synthesis and other designs, such as systematic review and meta-analysis. Attendees also learned the basic steps to a meta-synthesis methodological approach, using project examples from the ISE field.
