Portal to the Public Network is a NSF-funded program led by the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Washington, that facilitates face-to-face interactions between the public and local scientists and science-based professionals in order to promote greater appreciation and understanding of current scientific research and its applications. The program combines communication training for scientists, relationship-building between informal science education institutions and local research organizations, and public events that bring together scientists and the larger community. Pacific Science Center seeks applicants to become part of an expanded network of sites across diverse informal science education centers such as science centers, natural history museums, nature centers, zoos and aquaria. Applications are due August 31, 2013 for the December 6-8, 2013 training workshop. For more information, download the announcement and visit the Portal to the Public website.
