After more than a year of drafts, comments, and reviews, the Next Generation Science Standards are now available for implementation in science-learning environments. The new standards incorporate edits from more than 10,000 education stakeholders in two public review periods. Although the standards do not have specific recommendations for ISE professionals and institutions, the ISE field is well positioned to offer opportunities that connect informal STEM learning experiences with the NGSS standards. Read the standards by topic or visit the National Science Teacher Association’s NGSS web page for more information about the process, content, implementation, and supporting materials. Visit the CAISE website (informalscience.org after May 13) in the coming weeks for more information about how the NGSS may inform the informal science education field.
