The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.
The Office of Government & Corporate Relations and Community Engagement is seeking a full-time Director, Community Engagement to lead its efforts to both develop new local community partnerships and deepen and activate existing partnerships. The Director’s work supports the Museum’s recently completed strategic plan. The strategic plan, among other objectives, recognizes the Museum’s role in increasing the broad accessibility and application of scientific expertise and information, particularly related to climate change and biodiversity loss and their local consequences.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Identify community-based partners. Work with colleagues to develop the scope, implement the launch and evaluate pilots for onsite and community-based programming.
- Work with community-based groups and scientific/educational content experts to create programming.
- Strengthen existing relationships with community partners to better understand their specific needs and interests related to the Museum’s programming and practice, including through organizing/leading discussions.
- Develop and implement strategies to identify new community relationships, aiming to create ongoing collaborations.
- Collaborate with Education and Public Programs to identify community groups and partners whose mission and interests align with educational and exhibition programming and events.
- Conduct outreach in support of launching the framework for two new pilot programs designed to expand Museum visitorship.
The expected salary range for the Director, Community Engagement is $130,000/annual – $145,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
