The Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE), a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded center that works with programs that develop science education experiences and conduct research on science learning that takes place outside of traditional K-12 classroom settings seeks a Digital and Research intern at our downtown Washington, D.C. location to support the growth of our online community and digital collection of educational resources. Our internship offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to work with leading informal science education professionals and to learn about outreach and communications to non-profit and science education industries. If you are interested in science education and/or gaining hands-on digital communications experience, and are available for 10 hours/week or more, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct ongoing research in support of the center’s communications and social media activities.
- Research and prepare content for various social media channels including Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
- Support list building and segmentation activities.
- Participate in sourcing and indexing content for our growing digital collection of informal science education projects, evaluation reports, and research.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills and familiarity with new media/social networking communication strategies and outlets
- Science related coursework is a big plus
- Familiarity with science and/or education professional associations
- Web research skills
- Interest in informal STEM learning environments and/or science education
Time Commitment: Flexible schedule of 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. We expect this internship to extend through December 2013.
Location: 818 Connecticut Avenue NW, 7th Floor Washington, D.C. 20006 CAISE is located at the Association of Science-Technology Centers in downtown Washington, D.C. We are near the Farragut West (Orange and Blue lines) and Farragut North (Red line) Metro stops.
Compensation: We offer a $200 monthly stipend as well as transportation reimbursements for your travel to and from the office.
