Have you done a community/citizen science project in the last few years? Did it work? Did it not work (as expected)? The journal Environmental Justice wants to hear about it!
The journal Environmental Justice is hosting a Special Issue on community participatory science and its effectiveness (or not – just as important) in informing decisions and improving public health. Community participatory science has been lauded for its ability to engage community stakeholders and empower them with tools and information – but do those tools and information wind up making a difference to the larger community, or do only the engaged partners benefit from the experience? This special issue wants to explore the successes and challenges of community participatory science and its ability to change the status quo.
Suggested topic areas include, among others:
- Case studies and examples of how citizen and community science projects have or have not influenced programs, policies, and decisions
- Perspectives directly from communities on citizen and community science projects and its impacts
- Experiences and lessons learned from academic partners and governmental staff
- Partnerships that have been challenged to apply citizen and community science to lasting impacts
- Examining the extent to which sources of impacts would have to change to bring about changes in the environmental health status quo for a community
Manuscript Submission Deadline: March 15, 2024
