The Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship (JCES) and the Center for Advancing Research Impacts in Society (ARIS) invites submission of original manuscripts for a special issue presenting the challenges and opportunities in supporting Broader Impacts (Bl). JCES is an international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal that seeks to advance community-engaged scholarship in higher education.

The call is interested in manuscripts exploring the factors influencing the implementation of the ARIS Toolkit. The Toolkit supports researchers and Bl professionals in developing projects and partnerships to satisfy the Bl requirement of National Science Foundation proposals and support engagement in and communication of STEM. Factors include but are not limited to the usefulness of the Bl Toolkit, associations between Bl capacity building and institution-level outcomes. and how the Bl resources are adapted to align with institutional needs. We also encourage manuscripts that reflect both Bl professionals’ and researchers· views on factors that promote and threaten successful implementation of Broader Impacts work.

Manuscripts should include targeted audience, setting and goals, and evaluation data that demonstrate the effectiveness of the Bl program. The goal is to provide inspiration for Broader Impacts work within the ARIS and the Community-Engaged Scholarship communities while offering examples and programs to implement locally to build Bl capacity.
