The Convocation on the Status of Informal Science and Engineering Education is a 2-day event that will bring together the research, practice, policy, and philanthropic communities to take stock of the progress made in the field over the past 15 years since the release of the National Academies Learning Science in Informal Environments (2009) report. Participants will consider the impacts of this report, reflect on the trends in the field since the report’s release, share challenges and solutions, and identify promising directions forward.
A committee of 5-7 members will be appointed to plan and execute the convocation, and the Board on Science Education is currently seeking nominations of individuals to serve on the committee. Desired areas of committee expertise include:
– providing learning experiences in science and engineering in a variety of out of school contexts
– research on learning science and engineering in informal contexts
– professional development for informal science and engineering education providers
– equity in informal science and engineering education
