NSF AISL PI Meeting 2016

The Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE) will host the 2016 Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) Principal Investigator (PI) Meeting, as part of our cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF). The meeting will be held February 29th to March 2nd, 2016, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel in North Bethesda, MD, just minutes from D.C.

With over 200 attendees representing active NSF AISL projects, federal government agencies, and friends from informal STEM education institutions, we anticipate a meeting that will be filled with rich discussions.  Attendees are invited to participate in technical assistance sessions on Monday, February 29th that will cover the topics of grant management, current NSF opportunities related to informal STEM learning, and evaluation in informal STEM education. Concurrent sessions to be presented on March 1st will address current issues, and learning and audience experiences in many informal STEM environments and settings. A sample of the concurrent sessions being planned are Cyberlearning & Computer Science, Media and Technology in the Learning Ecosystem, Public Participation in STEM Research, Broadening Participation, and much more.

For the last day of the meeting, March 2nd, we are pleased to announce a panel discussion, “A Conversation About Media & Science Communication” with panelists Sue Ellen McCann (KQED Executive in Charge, Science), Miles O’Brien (Science Correspondent, PBS NewsHour), Flora Lichtman (Co-Director of “Animated Life” and Host of The Adaptors podcast), and John Besley (Associate Professor, College of Communication Arts and Sciences, Michigan State University).
