Professional Bio
Katherine Law's research interests have previously included behavioral ecology, conservation ecology, and ornithology. She holds a B.S. from Texas A&M University in psychology, with an emphasis on animal behavior. She also graduated with a master's degree in Biological-Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her master's research focused on acoustic communication in songbirds. Her research since then has involved the effects of invasive trees on Louisiana bottomland forest ecosystems and specifically the impact on bird communities. Currently she is a new Ph.D. student at Louisiana State University in the area of Biology Education. She teaches freshmen majors and non-majors biology, zoology, ecology, and botany at Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She also works as moderator for the biology honors student group, Tri Beta, at OLHCC.
Katherine supports the idea of science for everyone and promotes projects that explore science in everyday life. Her present interests involve the development of an out-of-school program that would bring undergraduate students together working with middle school students. Goals of the program include development of independent thinking skills, basic science literacy, and strengthening the motivation level of our future scientists. Being selected a CAISE fellow has encouraged further development of these ideas.
