Professional Bio
Sarah Garlick is the founder and director of the Geoscience Outreach Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public awareness, knowledge, and perceptions of the earth, environmental, and planetary sciences, and to fostering cross-communication between geoscientists and public audiences. We work directly with active geoscientists to develop media- and community-based outreach projects that bring their research into the public sphere. We also work as consultants to science centers and museums, K-12 schools, and community organizations to address geoscience education needs from the local to national levels.
Sarah has a background in geology and science writing/editing. She received a M.S. in structural geology and tectonics from the University of Wyoming and a B.S. in geology from Brown University. She is the author of Flakes, Jugs, and Splitters: A Rock Climber's Guide to Geology (Falcon, 2009), winner of a 2009 Banff Mountain Book Award, and she currently serves as a science editor for the Wyoming State Geological Survey and for the journal Rocky Mountain Geology.
