Professional Bio

Founded in 1996, ScienCentral produces TV, web, and educational science programs. The company pioneered a new distribution system for science programming, working with ABC News and NBC News to produce and distribute 90-second science stories for local news affiliates (funded in part by The National Science Foundation and The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation). The company’s videos appear on most web sites in the science vertical; its own news site, sciencentral.com, was selected as of Popular Science’s “Best of the Web”. ScienCentral produced NOVA News Minutes, Discover Minutes, and Scientific American Minutes for ABC News local affiliates and documentaries, like the AAAS Award winning Transistorized! (PBS, 1999, co-produced with KTCA, funded by The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation) with its award-winning companion web-site pbs.org/transistor (co- production American Institute of Physics, funded by The David and Lucile Packard Foundation). The company produces museum films (for example, biographies for The Franklin Institute), web videos (Science Sensei, Full Spectrum), educational films, web and Mobie Award-winning mobile video.

From 1995-7 Dr. Augenbraun served as an AAAS Diplomacy Fellow at the US Agency for International Development. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biology from Columbia University in 1992, was a medical illustrator with a D.O. from the NY College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986, and was a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has written widely on career development and communications issues for scientists.
