Professional Bio
Grant Spickelmier
Grant is the Assistant Director of Education at the Minnesota Zoo where he has worked since 1995. Grant manages an education staff of naturalist educators that present environmental education programming to over 100,000 students each year including preschool programs, behind-the-scenes tours, day camps and overnights. Grant is also the liaison with the School of Environmental Studies a 400 student high school on zoo property where he teaches classes in Animal Behavior and has led environmental field studies to locations such as Alaska and Costa Rica. Grant has increasingly been involved with using video games and the Internet as tools for education and recently received a National Science Foundation grant to develop “WolfQuest”, an interactive 3D role-playing game where kids play as wolves living in Yellowstone National Park and interact with other kids in virtual wolf packs. Grant has BA’s in Biology and Education from Bethel College and an MS in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota.
